Hulu has announced that this week’s third season finale of “Only Murders in the Building” was the streamer’s most watched finale this year based on views after its first day of streaming.
Hulu didn’t provide any further details but did confirm the series remains its most-watched original comedy ever. A view in this case is total stream time divided by runtime.
Third-party analytics firms support these claims as Season 3 has consistently ranked on Nielsen’s Top 10 original series chart since launch and its premiere had the most views of any scripted Hulu Original in 2023.
Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd guest-starred in the season which saw Charles, Oliver and Mabel (Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez) investigating a murder behind the scenes of a Broadway show.
The series was unsurprisingly renewed for a fourth season this week with a possible Los Angeles setting for at least part of the new run. Co-creator John Hoffman tells Deadline that: “We are gonna see if there’s a definite touch of Los Angeles in small doses.”
The new season will also deal with the cliffhanger left in the final moments of the third season. The full third season of “Only Murders in the Building” is now online on Hulu in the United States and on the Star section of Disney+ internationally.
