Boxing’s welterweight division has several bright stars hoping to secure a fight with undisputed champion Terence Crawford. But while the 147-pound king ponders his next move. top contenders Alexis Rocha and Giovani Santillan square off at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, on October 21. The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will air on DAZN.
The 26-year-old Rocha turned pro at 16 and is on a seven-fight win streak. After losing to Rashidi Ellis in 2020, the 26-year-old has been largely dominant and improved his game. On a two-fight knockout streak, Rocha believes that he’s more than ready for Santillan, who has 16 wins via knockout.
“It was very easy taking the fight. This is what it’s all about. I want to be the best, and in order to be the best, you have to fight one of the best, and that’s what Giovani Santillan presents,” Rocha said via Boxing Scene.
Rocha is rated No. 1 by the WBO while his opponent is rated No. 5.
Santillan, the former NABF junior lightweight titleholder, is ready to prove he deserves to be a top contender and has no plans to let either the odds or Rocha stop him.
