The sun is gleaming, boots are being exchanged for open-toe sandals (with a sock, but alas), audacious shades are circulating, and twilight is patiently postponing its reveal to 5:50 instead of 4:30 pm. Spring is just around the corner, and the runways are ripe with anticipation for the new season. While pulling day-to-day looks off the catwalk isn’t always functional, “wearability,” which was 2022’s favorite buzzword, has confirmed its staying power. The spring 2024 trends that stood out are both practical and inspired.

It was tough to identify an all-encompassing theme for the season. Instead, diverse perspectives and persuasions, both new and revisited, came together to form a cohesive whole. Think practicality in head-to-toe black at Margiela and Sacai or an overarching lean toward buildable separates with easy white dresses from Ferragamo and Miu Miu. Womanhood was also at the forefront with pieces like frothy skirts and tops that don’t expose all and that give a nod to office culture and feminine power.

As we move into the height of spring, we can expect to catch many more seasonal micro-trends materializing, as they often do. However, for now, here are some that you can wear tomorrow: faded cerulean tones from Proenza Schouler and Givenchy in waxy coats and plunging blouses, office-inspired pencil skirts that’ll withstand the test of time, and modern sheer silhouettes from high street to couture. All these and more fundamental spring 2024 fashion trends to browse — and shop — ahead.

Five Spring Trends You Can Buy Now:

The little white dress

A lack of color is the most prominent “color” trend for spring 2024, with designers setting aside their penchant for groundbreaking florals and omnipresent bursts of red. White dresses arrived by the dozen, including refined cutout embroideries at Valentino; draped excess at Proenza Schouler, Standing Ground, and Christopher Esber; and thigh-skimming hemlines at Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney.

Add some baby blue

The spring 2024 runways saw a wide range of blue hues, but one pale blue shade caught showgoers’ attention. This shade of blue, an almost powderlike, faded tone, was paired with eclectic opposing colors, from bursting orange to cherry red. It also works nicely with other trending soft shades like pistachio and barely there yellow.

Color isn’t your thing? There is always black.

Black may be safe, but it is also pragmatic, and during challenging times, designers often look to the starkness of the severe, trend-resistant tone. But it doesn’t have to be uninteresting. At Margiela, theatrical volumes, sharp shoulders, and flouncy hemlines were imaginative and wearable. At Sacai, undulating hems, elongated pants, and rounded silhouettes gave new meaning to outerwear and blouses.

Don’t be afraid of a little transparency

The spring-summer runways, particularly Chloe’s and Prada’s, showcased angelic iterations of silk, mesh, tulle, and chiffon, giving new life to current semi-sheer offerings. To embrace the same weightlessness and polish, try Free People’s lace skirt or Dorothee Schumacher’s airy rose-colored top.

Lastly, add a (longish) skirt

Miu Miu, 16Arlington, Gucci, and Alaia all had one thing in common: the pencil skirt of the ‘90s was back, and not much had changed about them. Buyable versions include Helmut Lang’s scarf hemline, Nili Lotan’s leather version, and Aritzia’s mocha brown rendition. Jenna Rink would be elated.
