Eddie Howe has reacted to a “painful” night for Newcastle United, who crashed out of Europe altogether after a 2-1 defeat to AC Milan.
The boss urges everyone to use this setback as “fuel” for the future, believing the pain we feel today can be motivation for tomorrow, focusing his attention back to the Premier League and building consistency there.
He defended our decision to chase the win at 1-1. Even though this cost us a place in the Europa League, Howe says it was always our intention to push for a place in the last 16 of the UCL.
The 46-year-old felt we were at our absolute best and felt their first goal was a particularly poor one to concede, but insists we’re giving it our all in tough circumstances and will have learned a lot from our Champions League experience.
