The Caribbean, due to its vicinity to the US, is a vacation hotspot, but which airlines operate the most flights?

According to data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, Caribbean Airlines had 386 operations to and from the US in November 2024. The airline joined the TSA’s PreCheck program a few days ago. Although most of these operations offer 160 seats per departure, a handful have sixty-eight seats per departure. The smallest of these routes is less than a hundred miles long.

Let’s dive deeper into the carrier’s operations in the US.

The smallest route

Caribbean Airlines’ 96-mile route from Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) is the smallest of the carrier’s routes to the US. The carrier operates an ATR-72 between SJU and EIS, offering 68 seats per departure.

Plenty of carriers offer nonstop flights between EIS and SJU. InterCaribbean Airways, Cape Air, and Silver Airways are some of Caribbean Airlines’ competitors on this route.

According to data from flightroutes.com, Caribbean Airlines’ 55-minute flight time is the longest for airlines operating non-stop flights on this route.

There are two routes with less than ten operations in November

Caribbean Airlines’ two routes with fewer than ten operations in November have a connecting thread: they feature the New York John F. Kennedy International Airport(JFK). While one of these routes has operations from A. N. R. Robinson International Airport (TAB) to JFK (and from JFK to TAB), the other route features an airport in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines—the Argyle International Airport (SVD).

According to data from flightconnections.com, the carrier operates a Boeing 737 MAX 8for operations between JFK and SVD. Currently, JetBlue is the only competitor of Caribbean Airlines for a non-stop flight on this route. American Airlines is set to operate non-stop flights on this route from December.

Caribbean Airlines, however, has no competitors for non-stop flights between JFK and TAB. The carrier also offers a one-stop flight connection via Port of Spain (POS), using a combination of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and ATR-72 for the one-stop flight.

The route with the highest number of operations also features JFK

Caribbean Airways has 86 operations between JFK and POS – 43 from JFK to POS, and an identical number between POS and JFK. The carrier offers 6,800 seats for flights on this 2,204-mile route, with more than 15 million available seat miles (ASMs).

Flightroutes.com also reported that JetBlue is the only other carrier offering a non-stop flight between JFK and POS. While Caribbean Airways operates a Boeing 737 MAX 8 on this route, JetBlue deploys an Airbus A321. JetBlue also offers a one-stop flight connection between JFK and POS and a stopover is available at TAB.

The airline announced eight new routes today.

American Airlines also offers a one-stop flight connection between JFK and POS with a stopover at Miami International Airport (MIA). American also operates a Boeing 737 MAX 8 on this route.

Two routes with once-daily operations

Caribbean Airlines’ operations between JFK and Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO) spans more than 2,500 miles, making it the carrier’s longest route to the US. The carrier offers thirty operations from JFK to GEO (and an identical number from GEO to JFK), equaling the number of operations between MIA and POS.

According to data from planespotters.net, the carrier has nine Boeing 737 MAX 8s in operation. Caribbean Airlines uses this aircraft type for its operations on the two routes we have mentioned in the table above.

American Airlines and JetBlue compete with Caribbean Airlines for non-stop flights between JFK and GEO. Let’s compare the operations of these three carriers.

Some of Caribbean Airlines’ other routes to (and from the US)

Caribbean Airlines operates ATR 72s for operations between SJU and POS. There are only 13 operations (offering almost half a million ASMs) on this route. Out of the eighteen aircraft in Caribbean Airlines’ fleet, nine are ATR 72s. Ch-aviation reported that the carrier’s acquisition of four ATR-72 last year helped it gain greater access to the US market under the Open Skies agreement:

“…. application by the Caribbean airline to the US Department of Transport (DOT) for full Open Skies operations as permitted under the existing bilateral air service agreement between the countries. The flag carrier – owned 88% by Trinidad and Tobago and 12% by Jamaica – said under the proposed Open Skies blanket authority, it will operate the same US routes as it currently does under its long-standing exemption authority granted in 2007.”

Some of the other routes of the carrier include operations between:
